Scholarship Fund for Junior Members
Welcome to the Clan Macpherson, USA Branch, and Scholarship Application program.
This scholarship is designed to assist Junior Members in their pursuit of education and/or training in areas which will increase their knowledge and expertise in Scottish Heritage traditions. It may also be used for the purpose of visiting the Clan Macpherson Museum, and the historic sites in the Badenoch region. The award is intended entirely for descendents of current or deceased Clan Macpherson members to include children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and adopted children. Additionally, it is the intent to award these on a one-time basis in order to encourage as many Junior Members as possible to apply annually.
Application must be mailed by the sponsoring adult with a short letter describing their (1) relationship to the Junior Member, (2) permission to print the Junior Members written experience in a future Urlar publication and (3) the Junior Members past participation and/or interest in the Clan Macpherson. Applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee prior to 31 March of the year in which the scholarship is to be awarded.
If awarded, the Junior Member is required to submit a letter after completion of the activity describing the (1) activity, (2) where the activity was located at, (3) how they benefitted from it and (3) a recommendation on other students attending in the future. Additionally a photo of the Junior Member, preferably in the activity. The purpose for the letter and photo is to include this in a future Urlar publication highlighting the Junior Members accomplishment.
To be eligible to apply for the Clan Macpherson, USA Branch Scholarship, you must meet the below listed criteria:
-Sponsoring Adult must have been a member in the Clan Macpherson, USA Branch for at least the past three consecutive years (excluding Life Members).
-Sponsoring Adult's membership must be paid in full for one year following completion of the activity the Junior Member is applying for.
-Applicant must be a Junior Member.
Provide an essay with the following content:
-Describe how this activity will assist you in achieving your goals and how will you reach them?
-Provide a brief history of your connection to Clan Macpherson and why being a part of the Clan Macpherson Association is important to you.
Your application will be evaluated on your 2 previous points by the Scholarship Committee.
Include one recommendation from a non-family member. This recommendation must be sent from the recommender separately to the Scholarship Committee. The recommendation must be received by the Scholarship Committee no later than 10 April.
The above information and/or any questions or clarifications are to be mailed by the sponsoring adult to the Vice-Chair of the Branch who is the Scholarship Committee Chair.
