We have just completed a very successful 70th Anniversary of the Clan Macpherson Association. Named the Platinum Dhubh, this week long event was very successful for many reasons. The first was the enthusiasm of clan members from at least fourteen countries. The second was the £5,000 grant from Event Scotland. This money allowed us to rent a huge marquee so that our dinners and dances could be in the same venue. We all enjoyed a served dinner followed by the usual dancing. We were able to use this marquee for the Annual General Meeting the following day and the ceilidh on the Saturday evening. We had great participation including flamenco dancing from our Spanish Macphersons who concluded by getting audience involvement.
When the rain and wind prohibited our Sunday night ceilidh at Ruthven Barracks, it was opportune to have the marquee still available. Another great performance was held.
We had a total attendance of over 350 people at the various events - including hikes, lectures, whisky tasting and more. This was truly a special year. And it was special because of the donations of so many - of time, talent and donations. I once again thank all who were involved.
Now we turn to the 2107 gathering. This will be a smaller version of what we just experienced. A gathering of 150 or so members allows for more one to one conversation and a feeling of really belonging to our Scottish family.
We are applying for another grant, albeit smaller, in the hopes that we can rent another marquee. We will again have a seated dinner prior to the ball. Information will become available by April 1, 2017.
Again, I must repeat, that it was a distinct honor to lead 186 kilted clan members on the march into the Newtonmore Highland Games. We are an active clan with great camaraderie.
I look forward to meeting you at the 2017 gathering, beginning on August 4, 2107 at the Duke of Gordon Hotel in Kingussie.
Until then, blessings to you all,
Jean Macpherson Duffy,
