Scarlett, the noted authority on clan tartan and the weaving of tartan. This 64 page, A5
size book is beautifully illustrated with 23 colour plates of some of the many tartans
covered by the author in his discussion of those if the great Clan Chattan Confederation. In
addition colour strips are used to show the relationships Between a number of these
tartans.
As well as giving the origins of
individual tartans, the author provides a very helpful note on thread counts, his views on
tartan pattern relationships and a useful bibliography. This book should be essential
reading for all those wishing to know more of the constituent clans of the Clan Chattan; it
should also go a good way to dispelling some of the myths which surround this fascinating
subject.
