GEORGE ANDREW MACPHERSON
There are two matters that need your attention please.
Firstly, it's very important for us to receive all kinds of news from
branches of the association around the world as well as from individual members. As an
association we have a tremendous opportunity for positive networking given extra impetus by
the genetic connections that we have with each other and our strong roots (however far back)
in the Highlands of Scotland. And what makes Creag Dhubh interesting is not just the
historic and academic content but also news about 'us' the clansfolk across the globe.
So, please, let me have copies of your branch newsletters press cuttings (with name of the
publication and dates published so we can give them proper attribution), and loads of
personal news about births, engagements, marriages, recoveries, deaths, career moves and
changes of address, (I'm not sure about the order of all these!) and just general news about
what Macphersons and their relatives are doing and achieving, or even enduring. There's
business to be done, too, internationally why not use family connections in making contacts?
We are all curious to know more about each other and pictures to go with the news make it
even better. Don't worry about the English or the spelling we can tidy that up, and if
necessary check articles with you to make sure we haven't altered the meaning. Phone calls
are acceptable, too we can take notes here.
Also, now that the internet has made communication so much easier and faster, let's exchange
email addresses and communicate with each other (I've already started and emails are flying
between here and Australia and Scotland.) Please don't make file attachments 'huge' not more
than a megabite, for fear of blocking the channels we're not all on ADSL broadband
connections.
And the second matter is that of advertising. The adverts in Creag Dhubh are often as
interesting as the articles as we discover sources of kilts, books, whisky and other goods
and services. The circulation of the magazine/journal is worldwide to groups of people with
useful spending power so please, could you recommend Creag Dhubh to possible advertisers?
They can get in touch with Sandy Macpherson (his address is in the journal) at
sandy.macpherson@btinternet.com . If you and he are successful, we can look forward in the
future to Craig Dhubh having colour pictures, which would be such an improvement.
For your interest, I'm a full-time journalist I produce daily news for farmers in the UK, on
the internet. (Take a look at Farming Online at www.farming.co.uk or my own news service's
website at www.ifbn.co.uk (Independent Farm Business News). As a journalist I have come to
realise how interesting so many association members' lives are and that they have so much to
share.
Very best wishes,
and I look forward to hearing from you soon,
yours sincerely
George A. Macpherson, FRAgS, FRSA
