James McPherson (USA)
On March 27, 2000, Princeton history professor James McPherson
delivered the 29th Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities at the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts Concert Hall. The Jefferson Lecture was established in 1972 as the highest
honor the federal government bestows for distinguished intellectual and public achievement
in the humanities.
Cluny Macpherson (CANADA)
This past spring, Public Gaming Research Institute presented
Cluny Macpherson, Atlantic Lottery Corporation President, with the Institute's highest
honor, the Lottery Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2000. The Award was established
in 1993 and named for its first recipient, Major Peter J. O'Connell, the award singles out
top lottery executives with outstanding qualities and achievements similar to the implacable
integrity O'Connell demonstrated in 20 years as director of the Rhode Island
Lottery.
Cluny Macpherson started with the Atlantic Lottery Corporation in 1978
and is now the senior North American Lottery CEO and has surpassed O'Connell's record as
continuous executive director of a lottery organization. Macpherson runs the lottery
operations for the provincial governments of New Brunswick,, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward
Island, Newfoundland and Labrador
Cluny Macpherson, President of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, was
elected as a member of the World Lottery Association executive for a two-year term at its
Conference 2000 when it met in Glasgow this past June.

Holbaek Pipe Band from Denmark, playing proudly in the Macpherson
Hunting Tartan. Became 2nd in grade 3b at the world Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow
August 2000. and the next year played in grade 3a.
