England & Wales Branch
     of Clan Macpherson

The clan has a strong presence in England and Wales and we are always keen to meet members and Macphersons who may wish to become members or attend some of the events the clan organises.

The next planned event is a trip to the Isle of Wight on 22nd September 2007.  If you are interested please e-mail angusmacpherson@1templegardens.co.uk and we will provide further details.

The main event of the year is the London Ball, which is scheduled for Friday 16th November.

The Ball is a great opportunity to celebrate as the winter nights draw in, with wine, dancing, pipes and the best address to the haggis since Rabbie himself. It will be held again this year at the excellent Caledonian Club, near Hyde Park.

Invitations will be sent out to members ahead of the ball, but you can book your interest in advance by emailing macpherson@mackie.demon.co.uk. Numbers are strictly limited, so you would be advised to get in touch early.

A helpful reminder of the steps for dances is here, but don’t worry if you forget them – many of us do, and Lindsey will  be providing walk throughs and instructions.

The events section of this site includes some photos from previous balls.

Previous events include the 2007 AGM, held at the Fleming Collection, the largest private collection of Scottish art. If you missed it, the gallery, in London’s Mayfair, is well worth a visit.

In 2006 the AGM and Ruby Celebration was held at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, providing a rare opportunity to visit the State Apartments, as well as a great venue for the evening. This picture shows the gathering of the clan in London – click on the picture for a larger version (it is big, so it may take some time on a slow internet connection).

Thanks are due to the Quarter Master, Lt. Col. Noel McCleery, and the Governor, General Sir Jeremy Mackenzie GCB OBE, Queen’s Own Highlanders, for their generous invitation.

Attendees were entertained by Robyn Kirk singing, accompanied by Ian Cutts on the fiddle and clarsach, by the Royal Hospital Military Band and by wine from the extensive French cellars of Donald Macpherson.

We always welcome new members – please go to the membership page if you would like to join.
