Report [2008 Tartan Day Celebration] at 22nd April, 2008Well it has been another successful 2008 Tartan Day Celebration here in the now sunny midwest! Yes, the weather has been quite terrible the past several weeks with a lot of rain and flooding, but over the weekend of April 5 and 6 the sun shined and Tarta Day was a huge hit! Every year St. Louis celebrates Tartan Day by hosting a gathering in a nearby town called St. Charles. The event is held in the exact area where explorers Lewis and Clark made their camp en route to the Pacific Ocean. Much of the buildings in historic St. Charles are from the eighteenth-century and the Tartan Day event is held in a park adjacent to the Missouri River...it's quite a view! The event is organized much like a typical Highland games with all kinds of events and activities planned. There are piping events, athletics, musicians from all around, good food, good drink and fun for all ages. They hold a march through historic downtown St. Charles and I represented the Clan Macpherson proudly. There were two other Macphersons, one of whom had a banner! It was a great weekend indeed and I shall be sure to upload photos as soon as possible. |
